Why is the winery named Primo Estate?

Primo Grilli, together with his sons Joe and Peter, was our founder. He was born in Italy and immigrated to Australia in 1953.

How long has Primo Estate been making wine?

1979 was our first vintage. Joe Grilli, our winemaker, had just graduated as Dux of Oenology from Roseworthy Agricultural College.

Who owns Primo Estate?

Primo Estate has always been 100% owned by the Grilli family.

Do you own your own vineyards and winery?

Yes! Our vineyard sits on McMurtrie Road, McLaren Vale. We use the same winery that Primo and his sons built in the 1970s.

Why is the JOSEPH Sparkling Red sold out and when will it be back?

The JOSEPH Sparkling Red is made using an aged base wine – we can only use a tiny amount of this mother stock to make the JOSEPH each year. It is released in October and usually sells out by Christmas.

Why is the Virginia Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet Merlot sold out and when will it be back?

The Virginia Vineyard Red is a popular wine that sells out quickly each year. It is released in February.

Are aged wines available to order?
